Under the direction of the Coding Assurance Director within Compliance, this position is responsible for performing audits of professional service medical records for physicians and clinicians across a variety of settings and specialties. The auditor utilizes a predictive modeling tool to help target the critical areas of risk. This unique approach to provider audits allows the auditor to spend their time focused on the areas of high value. The auditor is responsible for preparing and delivering documentation improvement feedback to the physician and staff utilizing PowerPoint, Visio, Excel, or similar software. The position is also responsible for preparing written and oral reports to the Director on the results of audit performed. This position requires an advanced knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS code sets, knowledge of applicable regulations for Medicaid and Medicare as well as the principles of physician documentation, coding, and billing in a variety of settings and specialties. This position also maintains a collaborative working relationship with the coding, billing, and follow-up staff.
Required Minimum Education : Minimum associates degree from an accredited college required or in lieu of associates degree candidate must meet the minimum experience.
Required Minimum Experience : At least eight (8) or more years auditing and compliance experience in an academic physician practice required; or (10) years coding experience in a physician or outpatient coding environment
Required Minimum Certification : At least one of the following coding certifications that must be current and in good standing is required – Certified Professional Coder (CPC) from the American Academy of Professional Coders, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS-P) from the American Health Information Management Association.
Required Minimum Skills : Must have an advanced knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10-CM and HCPCS code sets and remain current with Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance policies and procedures. Extensive experience and knowledge of inpatient and outpatient coding, billing and documentation requirements in academic medical centers. Must have a demonstrated ability to explain complicated coding and compliance concepts to providers, staff and colleagues. Must be proficient in public speaking and communicate well with others utilizing clear and concise writing and verbal skills. Must work well with little guidance, be organized and detailed oriented with a high degree of accuracy. Skill in exercising initiative judgment and decision-making to achieve organizational objectives. Must be proficient with Microsoft product suite specifically PowerPoint, Excel, Visio and Word. Advanced knowledge of medical records procedures and federal and state laws governing medical records privacy and release of information. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Must present a professional image to the public, healthcare providers and the health system
