The Staff Registered Nurse in the ACC/CDU practices professional nursing as defined by the Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act & by organizational policies, procedures & guidelines. Provides nursing care for patients, members & families to restore & promote health & to prevent illness & injury in the ACC/CDU & supporting departments. Collaborates w/ leadership & members of the Health Care Team across departments to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe care & service.
Provides nursing care to patients w/in his/her scope of practice, utilizing the nursing process to assess the health status, establish a nursing diagnosis, establish nursing goals to meet health care needs, & develop, implement & evaluate a nursing plan of care. O.C.G.A. 43-26-3(8). Nursing care will involve both ACC & CDU patients.
Assesses & triages patients presenting to the ACC/CDUhealth care setting, including unscheduled patients, emergencies & others. Recognizes patient's presentation w/ atypical signs & symptoms of acute coronary syndrome & acute stroke. Initiates immediate emergency interventions. Provides care for patients of varying age & acuity including AMI, multiple injuries, CVA, Gyn emergencies & other medical /surgical conditions. Performs a triage assessment, determines acuity, & implements an individual plan of care. Evaluates emergency situations & initiates appropriate nursing interventions. Leads the nursing response to medical emergencies. Ensures the readiness of the Health Care Team members to respond to emergencies, including equipment & staff knowledge & skill.
Monitors patient & work flows, directs other clinical support staff in the delivery of patient care. Monitors electronic messaging & email related to patient & provider requests & inquires. Manages the messages as appropriate or triages to physician or others as needed.
Initiates & monitors IV therapy, administration of medications & other nursing procedures as ordered by the physician or associate practitioner. Assists w/ procedures & monitors patients' response during & after the procedure.
Assesses patient & family health education needs, provides health teaching & counseling & evaluates effectiveness of the education process.
Conducts outgoing telephone calls to patients requiring follow up care & preventative outreach.
Accurately documents patient data, actions, interventions & patient response according to established guidelines & policies.
Leads or participates in quality improvement activities &/or initiatives. Responds effectively to member / patient concerns. Serves as an advocate for the patient. Facilitates transitions & coordination of care across the continuum.
Serves as a role model for quality & service & as a resource, coach & mentor for other members of the Health Care Team.
Completes other department-specific procedures & nursing care w/in scope of practice & skill.

- Minimum of two (2) years recent (within last five (5) years) experience within an Emergency Department and/or Critical Care unit (ICU, L&D, PACU, etc.) as a licensed RN.
Graduate of NLN-accredited School of Nursing.
License, Certification, Registration
Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Georgia or able to obtain prior to date of hire.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association must be obtained prior to hire date.
Must have ACLS certification from the American Heart Association within six (6) months of hire.
Must have PALS certification from the American Heart Association within six (6) months of hire.
Basic EKG interpretation.
Advanced hemodynamic monitoring.
Two (2+) years of experience within an Emergency Department and/or Critical Care unit (ICU, L&D, PACU, etc.).
Experience in a fast-paced setting/environment.
Excellent nursing assessment skills.
Bachelor's (BSN) degree.
