JOB DESCRIPTIONPosition: DispatcherSupervisor: Operations ManagerFLSA Status: Non-ExemptEffective Date: September 1, 2017This job description is established by Ambu-Stat EMS to outline the basic requirements, duties, and general responsibilities of the Dispatcher position.Position Summary:The Dispatcher must ultimately coordinate both emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance. The Dispatcher must receive requests for these services and assign the most appropriate unit or resource to meet the need. This individual will also be required to schedule routine patient transports per available units and make continual adjustments as needed. The Dispatcher will also be communicating with other public safety entities as well as healthcare organizations and the community. Immediate Supervisor:Operations ManagerReporting Structure:Will comply with directives established by a Dispatch Supervisor, or the Operations Manager. Will follow and support the Incident Commander as described in the ICS system during emergency operations.Supervisory Responsibility:NonePrimary Duties and Responsibilities:The following duties are an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of the Dispatcher and should not be considered an all-inclusive list.1. Demonstrate knowledge of the Ambu-Stat personnel policies.2. Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedures including CPR and First Aid. 3. Demonstrate knowledge of state and federal communications regulations (e.g. FCC regulations) including those pertaining to emergency operations.4. Must understand basic dispatch codes as well as standard abbreviations and industry terminology commonly used by EMS agencies.5. Will be required to operate multi-line telephone systems, monitor and operate radio consoles, operate and utilize computer equipment, and work with the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system for EMS dispatch; monitor and respond to a variety of technical systems and alarms.6. Translate and assimilate information to the appropriate codes and priorities; dispatch the most appropriate transport unit or resource and enter the information into the CAD.7. Receive and respond to a variety of emergency and non-emergency service requests and complaints; ask vital questions to interpret, analyze and anticipate the caller’s situation to provide information, referral resources and pre-arrival instructions for EMS calls if indicated.8. Create and monitor routine patient transport routes and schedules, being able to adjust accordingly and with short notice.9. Participate in the exchange of information between off-going and on-coming shifts and in crew meetings as necessary.10. Maintain familiarity with response area and jurisdiction.11. Participate in all scheduled and assigned training classes.12. Use good judgement and decision-making skills to evaluate situations and establish priorities and solutions to resolve matters.13. Handle and maintain confidential information according to laws and regulations.14. Develop and maintain positive, effective working relationships with other employees and provide the highest quality customer service to the public, community, and customers of the service.15. Ability to multi-task and make swift adjustments, and handle multiple demands in steady paced environments and stressful situations.16. Maintain company facilities and complete all daily duties as assigned.17. Work well in a progressive, team-oriented environment; maintain positive and constructive written and oral communication at all times.18. Be willing to work additional shifts as needed.

Minimum Qualifications and Certification Requirements:1. Must be 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.2. Possess a valid State of Georgia Driver License and acceptable driving record (3-year report).3. All employees who operate company vehicles must have an acceptable driver’s license that meets the company insurance requirements.4. Possess a current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.5. Ability to complete the listed primary duties and responsibilities of the position6. Ability to navigate a smart-phone and learn new software systems quickly7. Proficient with Microsoft Office 8. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, routine correspondence and memos, and ability to write basic correspondence and reports.9. MUST submit to and pass drug/alcohol testing to include a background investigation and a physical examination.10. Must be willing to attend and complete training such as Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification.

Preferred Qualifications:1. State of Georgia EMD certification2. Prior experience as an EMS dispatcher/communicatorWork Environment and Physical Requirements:This position requires work in an office setting and around emergency vehicles during orientation training.1. This position requires standing, sitting for long periods of time.2. This position requires typing and viewing of computer screens, listening to multiple lines of communication traffic.3. The frequent use of sensory activities such as talking, seeing, hearing.4. This position will involve frequent periods of high, mental, and/or emotional stress.5. Must have good close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus quickly


After ninety (90) days of employment, the employee is eligible to attend training for required certifications funded by the company. A signed training agreement is required.

The company will also provide for continuing education throughout the duration of employment.
