Diabetes & Nutrition Services at Northside Hospital offers the communities who count on us for comprehensive diabetes, nutrition, and weight management services. The focus of our efforts? To helppeople with diabetes learn more about their disease while developing the skills needed to make healthy lifestyle changes. It’s these life-long changes that work to minimize the risk of complications fromdiabetes and while empowering patients and educating families.Patients are supported by our multidisciplinary team approach to nutrition which includes interactionswith registered dietitians, clinical exercise physiologists, and other health specialists. Our program is accredited by the American Diabetes Association. Position Description:

Coordinates and supervises diabetes education activities for inpatients, outpatients, and individuals and groups of patients with diabetes ranging in age from adolescence to adulthood. Coordinates the diabetes education plan with other team members, and acts as liaison to the primary nurse and physician. Serves as role model and resource to staff, and facilitates Quality Improvement activities. Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and weekend call. Must complete a minimum of twenty four (24) hours of continuing education in diabetes and education principles during initiation on job, and must complete six (6) hours of diabetes education or continuing education each year.

Position Requirements:

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse or Registered Dietitian in the State of Georgia. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, or Bachelor of Science in Nutrition, plus one (1) year experience in patient education, or diabetes patient care. Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to work effectively with a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated knowledge of adult education principles.
