IBM Corporate Communications Specialist - IBM Watson Content & IoT Platfor in ATLANTA, Georgia
IBM’s Watson Content & IoT Platform portfolio is seeking a communications specialist to plan, coordinate and execute external and internal communications plans supporting several teams, including business development, Weather Underground product & editorial. This role will also be involved in supporting our international expansion on the consumer side.
This role will manage and coordinate earned media communications tactics as part of the overall strategic communications plans, including crafting pitches; authoring press releases, blog posts and bylines; compiling media lists and generating other press materials as needed.
The specialist will also create content to creatively share our news, and raise the visibility of our talent and capabilities, across a variety of channels and formats - from press releases to blog posts, social media platforms, video, infographics, and more.
This individual will be responsible for generating the team’s daily press coverage reports, helping to maintain and update the division’s corporate press site and gathering or overseeing the production of assets to support stories. S/he will also help to create and execute internal communications plans to build awareness for the portfolio’s news and events throughout both The Weather Company and the broader IBM business.
This role will also provide support to their internal clients on event planning as needed.
Develop and help implement strategic media relations plans to significantly increase brand awareness of .
Cultivate relationships with key journalists at national, local and trade outlets.
Write, review and edit draft media pitches, press releases, internal communication of company news and events, and other press materials as needed, as well as content for a range of platforms and formats.
Pitch executives for placement in media stories and speaking engagements.
Work with IBM Comms in geos to drive stories and press coverage in international markets
Proactively manage editorial calendars to identify opportunities to promote each division and its executives, offerings and talent.
Develop content and execute updates for The Weather Company site, newsroom and W3/intranet.
Generate comms team’s daily clippings reports.
Utilize PR software to assemble media lists and manage press release distribution.
Develop and execute plans for industry events.
Write and submit The Weather Company products, executives, etc. for relevant awards.
Partner with internal communications manager as needed, to build awareness for internal clients’ news and events throughout the WCIoTP portfolio and broader IBM business.
Coordinate internal communications with external messaging and strategies, as appropriate and necessary.
Work with head of communications to ensure that business priorities and messages are cascaded throughout business unit/departments via existing channels.
Help plan and support events for internal clients as necessary.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field preferred.
5-7 years PR experience, preferably in a corporate or PR agency setting.
Experience in proactive and reactive media relationships.
Experience owning projects.
Internal communications experience a plus.
Familiarity with tech and business media a plus.
Preferred Tech and Prof Experience
Ability to establish and maintain effective communication, in both written and spoken forms, with internal and external partners
Ability to tell stories creatively through a variety of methods; ability to identify best messaging for each platform or channel
Demonstrated familiarity and knowledge of online, social media and blogging community
Ability to work with senior leaders.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to deal with time sensitive and pressured situations
Ability to handle challenges and provide quality solutions within budget
Self starter who will proactively take on projects
Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
Knowledge of PR tools such as Cision, TV Eyes, Meltwater News.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel, Internet Explorer, Powerpoint, Sharepoint etc.
Knowledge of Photoshop, video a plus.
Knowledge of Google product suite a plus; Lotus Notes.
