Americold Transportation Supervisor in Forest Park, Georgia

Under general supervision, the Transportation Supervisor will dispatch loads, select and identify routes and sometimes provide direction to both route and yard personnel, in and around the Distribution Center facilities. Responsibilities include supervision of Driver responsibilities, supporting safety and compliance to all DOT and company rules and regulations.

Essential Functions:

  • Dispatch drivers to various supplier and customer facilities

  • Monitor all deliveries and/or pickups for service failures

  • Monitor and reply to all emails as necessary

  • Monitor driver’s productivity and minimize driver delay (driver utilization)

  • Plan manpower, work load, and equipment availability to ensure proper usage of all three (driver and equipment utilization)

  • Responsible for customer contact and highly effective customer service and quality

  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of work load departure (PDT compliant)

  • Monitor and control PeopleNet and e-log reports

  • Foster open and transparent communications with all associates and business partners; encourage prompt and accurate disclosure of accidents, near misses, and safety and health issues and recommendations

  • Monitor and control attendance policy and scheduling (delivery, yard, fuel island drivers)

  • Maintain positive employee relationships

  • Manage special customer service requests (dry ice, trailer moves, events (Classroom on Wheels, Career Day, etc.)

  • Communicate and cooperate with all supervisors and department leads (provide feedback)

  • Work with Operations in securing all backhauls and shuttles

  • Assist with training drivers (provide feedback and assistance, Monitor and coach driver performance)

  • Follow all collective bargaining contract stipulations

  • Compare computer printouts to manually maintained journals to determine if they match

  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations

  • Oversee and follow all safety and hours of service regulations

  • Operate computers to record, store information

  • Perform general yard and occasional office duties

  • Operate and carry oneself in a professional and courteous manner at all times

  • Perform other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Experience working in the transportation industry

  • Ability to add, subtract multiply and divide

  • Ability to carry out instructions as written, oral or in diagram form

  • Knowledge of principles and methods for fleet maintenance

  • Excellent DOT compliance knowledge

  • Ability to solve routine problems

  • Awareness of FMCSA requirements

  • Demonstrate strong sense of urgency

  • Strong communications and customer satisfaction skills

  • Problem solving skills

  • Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics

  • Must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions: they must get along with co-workers without exhibiting behavioral extremes

  • Perform work activities requiring reasoning, negotiating, instructing, persuading, or speaking with others; and respond appropriately to criticism Management and/or the customer

Tools and Technology Required:

  • Knowledge of filing systems

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel a “must”)

  • Desktop computers

  • Photocopiers

  • Current CDL is a plus but not required

Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred, or at least one year related work experience

  • Valid Driver’s License
