Verizon Lead Database Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia


  • Administer Oracle/Cassandra/mysql and other databases as assigned

  • Develop and enhance dashboards to quickly troubleshoot and prevent unexpected results

  • Manage storage capacity of the database systems including backups and restoration processes

  • Design the automation of creation, configuration, and delivery of high availability Database systems

  • Deliver actionable database designs, standards, and patterns in collaboration with various subject matter experts.

  • Lead Database design understanding and delivery in cooperation with Project Managers and other key stakeholders.

  • Coordinate and facilitate the creation of strategies and technology roadmaps while involving all key stakeholders.

  • Recommend and influence new and current database infrastructure best practices and processes including but not limited to zero downtime deployments

  • Conduct proof-of-concept projects to adopt new technologies.

  • Plan, coordinate, and administer database systems – support and enhancing operational guidelines, data protection, and structures

  • Proactively engage in enterprise capacity planning and performance management


  • 8 + years in in a DBA role supporting Oracle/Cassandra primarily

  • 2+ years of experience in Dockers, Ansible, and open source technologies is critical

  • 3+ years of experience in Design and deployment of database topology

  • Competencies Redis, Kafka, Hadoop scripting, HDFS Hive, Pig, Map Reduce, Impala, Spark, Storm and Sqoop

  • Experience with Enterprise Manager 12C, APEX, OpsCenter

  • Experience with Multi Datacenter active/active environments is desired

  • Expert understanding of design principles and components for scalable/elastic, secure, reliable, and resilient computing services on a global scale – and the ability to apply them in integrated solutions

  • Demonstrate strong applied knowledge with one or more of the following python/shell/java/perl

  • Demonstrate strong applied knowledge with Oracle 12C RAC

  • Has strong knowledge and experience in complex technical architectures in real-time and highly available environments.

  • Verbally capable to communicate directlywith senior management and subject matter experts through presentations and discussion.

  • Ability to Collaborate and Engage well with others to solve problems and actively incorporate input from various sources

  • Possess excellent business acumen with a strong ability to map business requirements to technical solutions.

  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, proven presentation skills to all levels of audience including technologists, management and executives.

MS or BS in Computer Science or Engineering
