Position Purpose: This position is part of a Professional Services team working with Clients, Account Management, Professional Services and Development Managers, Project Managers, Business Analysts, Quality Analysts, Software Developers and Project Technical Leads. The Implementation Architect (“IA”) plays a critical role in the software development process and involves external client-facing activities, in addition to internal tasks. It is responsible for ensuring projects are properly planned with sufficient technical risk mitigation from the outset. The IA will contribute to Fiserv’s implementation life cycle and methodologies.

Business Description: Digital Channels provides industry-leading products and services for the online and mobile channels to help financial institutions drive deeper relationships and more effectively compete in the digital transformation. The Professional Services (PS) team is responsible for the delivery of online and mobile banking solutions to our clients.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Primary point of contact to support sales team with technical and integration solutions insight.

  • Strategic consultation with clients for identifying solutions to meet client needs.

  • Support portfolio teams responsible for pursuits, providing design and approach consultation and estimate validation and review.

  • For complex or very large scale projects, provide high-level (aka, directional, T-shirt, ROM) estimating for purposes of comparing strategic options (typically based on prior experience/implementations).

Project Delivery

  • Architecture, design and technical leadership support for PS implementation projects

  • Interface with other Fiserv business units and product organizations to facilitate DCPS implementations.

  • Build limited illustrative examples or POC or introduce/propagate new technology to help PS implementations.

Digital Channels Product Management/Enterprise Architecture Liaison

  • Interface with DC Product, Enterprise Architecture, and SET teams for purposes of knowledge sharing.

  • Interface with the DC Product Management and Enterprise Architecture teams to define/advocate the DCPS needs for future product offerings.

  • Interface with the DC Enterprise Architecture team to help standardize Professional Services development process / tool adoption, and align as appropriate with other engineering organizations.

Code Reuse

  • Identify code reuse opportunities and advocate usage of reuse by project teams.

  • Define process for archiving/packaging reusable code.

Practice Improvement

  • Establish and socialize best practices for development standards, design patterns, extensions, customization methodologies and processes for DCPS.

  • Identify improvements in developer tools and development process.

  • Establish standard toolsets and software

  • Work with PS leads to incorporate project learnings into the PS development methodology / lead process improvement initiatives.

  • Additionally, through a strong commitment to collaboration, operational efficiency, growing and maturing the organization’s Project implementation and delivery skills and best practices, the PSIA will serve as a catalyst for growth and technical leadership within Fiserv’s and DCPS’s project implementation community.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent relevant work experience required. Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent engineering or technical disciplines preferred.

Job Related Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years hands-on software development experience, including:

o 5+ years designing, writing, debugging and testing object oriented code.

o 3+ years experience designing and developing internet e-commerce applications, high volume transactional systems that include a significant integration component.

o 3+ years in a customer facing role. Includes demonstrable success: working directly with clients to resolve business and technical conflicts; communicating with broad range of client stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.

o 1+ years leading technical delivery team (e.g., experience with estimation, task assignment and tracking, risk identification and management).

  • An advanced understanding of coding techniques which contribute to the reliability, maintainability, readability, simplicity, performance, and testability of software.

  • An advanced understanding of IT environments including networking, server technologies, databases, security and performance.

  • An advanced understanding of Microsoft .Net development tools and frameworks.

  • A solid understanding of software development patterns and their application in several programming languages.

  • Experienced in the day-to-day practicalities of Software Development Lifecycles such as Scrum, Waterfall or the Rational Unified Process.

  • Software development qualifications such as Microsoft Certified Professional Developer or Oracle Certified Java Programmer preferred.

Additional Skills/Knowledge:

  • Excellent Verbal and written communication skills

  • An advanced understanding of processes and practices which contribute to the reliability, maintainability, security, simplicity, performance, and testability of software.

  • Financial services industry experience, familiarity with eFinance applications, understanding of ecommerce implementation considerations, and project management experience.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project Office Suite).

  • Deep understanding of issues involved in delivering, deploying and supporting an integrated suite of products.

  • Strong leadership, time management, and problem solving skills.

Travel Required:

  • Up to 25% (domestic and international)
